Sketchbook quarter-bound in brown leather and grey boards, the front squared and partially decorated with a quatrefoil design, with a manufacturer's label (Henry Weston - London) containing 37 numbered leaves with sketches (some also on the verso) and 8 numbered leaves left blank or with text, with mainly studies of animals, also figure studies, decorative designs and other subjects; including monkeys, birds, a bear, lions, tigers, lizards, hares and dogs, costume studies, female statues, a scene with three figures on a path at nightfall, carriages, a chest and an unmade bed.
Most sketches in graphite, a few in pen and black ink
Inscribed on the inside front cover: "R.Caldecott/46 Gt. Russell St..", other addresses, and "Zoo [...]"; some leaves inscribed with colour and other notes, including "Pl/9 vol.1 Repository/1816" (35r), "Landaulet. Repository vol 7.1819 vol 9.1820" (35v), and on one leaf with extensive notes, some in Greek (45v)
