R C Soc Weekend, Buxton, May 2001

In May 2001, the Randolph Caldecott Society visited Buxton, in the beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire, England.  Randolph visited this spa town for his health in 1876.  This sketch is taken from one of his letters.

Walking in Buxton, 1876

"I am as above.  Walking solemnly in the gardens, or sitting limply in the almost deserted salon listening to an enfeebled band." (22 Nov 1876.)

During his visit, he sketched other views of Buxton which were published in the Graphic on 31 March 1877.
